Otniel

A community of varied human landscape, intellectuals alongside people of action, young and old. A high quality of living conveyed through education, culture, communal activities, growth and absorption. The community has various leisure activities for children and adults, and educational institutes and facilities from birth to adults.

Otniel is situated 15 minutes from highway 6, 50 minutes from Jerusalem, 30 minutes from Be’er Sheba.

 

Establishment and timeline:

1983 – “Dorit” settlement breaks ground, core settlement joins the community

1985 – moving into the government issued prefabricated homes

1987 – relocating the Regional Council into the community

1987 – founding Kollel Beit Va’ad Latorah

1996 – building Nahalat Ami neighborhood

1999 – Inaugurating Beit Midrash of the Hesder Yeshiva

2005 – founding the high school Yeshiva

2006 – inaugurating Dvir School

The community consists of 155 families and growing.

 

Facilities and institutions:

Infant and toddler daycare, preschools, playgrounds, Dvir school, yeshiva high school, Hesder Yeshiva, synagogue, Mikveh, library, grocery store, healthcare clinic, Yad Sarah branch, members social club, pool, youth club, play space, pizzeria, music room, “Mid-life” club and a rich afterschool activity center.

Art studio, alternative health treatments, dance studio, pizzeria.

Residents work in local educational establishments and as liberal professionals outside the community.

Hesder Yeshiva acts like a lodestone to philosophers and intellectuals from within the country and abroad and serves as the center of the community.
